Glass Houses

There’s nothing like a ding letter to take the wind out of your sails, as you struggle with the forces of Resistance to complete a lucrative but deathly-dull service piece. The lag in response gave me a delicious day or two of hope, but now it’s official: the lovely people at Continuum’s 33 1/3 series have rejected my pitch for a monograph centered on Traffic’s album John Barleycorn Must Die.

Probably not a bad thing. The rejection was a polite form e-mail; but I just re-read the pitch again, for the first time since sending it off, and a more appropriate response would’ve been a note wrapped around a brick and hurled through my living-room window.

I’ll admit I might not be thinking about it objectively right now.
