Meursault ostensibly had a wife, but was so flamboyantly queeny—slender, mincing, impeccably-mustachioed, diva-enshrining—that the effect was less closeted than weirdly sexless. Which suited ideally the bizarre erotic (and office) politics of the all-girl’s Catholic school where we worked.
